DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL PROGRAMS AND PUBLIC POLICY AT CHASE BREXTON HEALTH SERVICES ELECTED CO-CHAIR OF THE NATIONAL COALITION FOR LGBT HEALTH

Washington, DC - Dr. David Haltiwanger, director of clinical programs and public policy at Chase Brexton Health Services in Baltimore has been elected co-chair of the executive committee of the National Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Health (NCLGBTH).

Dr. Haltiwanger serves a two-year term as co-leader of the coalition starting this month. Chase Brexton Health Services has been a member organization of the coalition since NCLGBTH was formed in October 2000.

Eugenia ìHeniaî Handler, director of government relations at the Fenway Community Health Center in Boston, is the other co-chair of the NCLGBTH executive committee. Haltiwanger replaces outgoing co-chair MartÌn Ornelas-Quintero, executive director of LLEGOóthe National Latina/o Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Organization - in Washington, D.C.

ìAs Director of Clinical Programs and Public Policy of Chase Brexton, a community based health clinic delivering health care to a diverse community, David plays a compassionate and focused role in leading the coalition in carrying out its mission of improving the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and communities,î said Handler. ìHe has been with us one hundred percent from the start and we are glad to have him in the leadership role as our executive committee co-chair for the next two years.î

ìOn the national level, LGBT communities face particular health challenges such as access to quality healthcare, inclusion in federal research, and flat-funding or elimination of our community based programs,î Dr. Haltiwanger said, ìand I am happy to dedicate my time with the coalition to continue to address those challenges at the federal level.î
