"Eliminating Homophobia and Transphobia in the Health Care, Mental Health and Social Service Settings," Monday, March 1, 9:00am to 5:00pm.
This one-day course is designed for Health Care, Mental Health and Social Service Providers staff and volunteers who work with or provides services to members of the LGBT community including front-line staff such as clerical aides, administrative associates, or security personnel. There are no prerequisites. The purpose of this training is to help service staff who are new to working with LGBT populations understand the consequences and impact of homophobia/transphobia in service delivery settings. During this interactive course participants will explore basic research on sexuality, myths and facts through a series of exercises and discussions. The course also contains a discussion of the basic components of an LGBT friendly service facility.
The location will be provided after completion of registration with the HIV Training Institute. Seating is limited to the first 20 registrants.

"Overview of LGBT Violence Issues and Anti-LGBT Bias," Thursday, March 23, 10:00am to 12:00pm.
The New York City Gay & Lesbian Anti-Violence Project will present a special lecture on the "Overview of LGBT Violence Issues and Anti-LGBT Bias." The location will be provided after completion of registration with the HIV Training Institute. Seating is limited to the first 100 registrants. The New York City Gay & Lesbian Anti-Violence Project (AVP) is the nation's largest service agency for victims of bias crimes against the lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, and HIV-affected communities. For nearly twenty-five years, AVP has provided counseling and advocacy for thousands of victims of bias-motivated violence as well as for survivors of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault, HIV-related violence, and police misconduct. AVP documents incidents of violence against and within LGBT communities, educates the public about the effects of violence, against or within our communities, and works to reform public policies impacting all lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, and HIV-affected people.

As part of National LGBT Health Awareness Week , Whitman-Walker Clinic presents a public forum on LGBT health to draw attention to the disparities in health care faced by members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities and what should be done to ensure that the LGBT community receives high-quality, appropriate health care. Roberta, interim executive director of Whitman-Walker Clinic, will moderate the forum. Panelists include: Earline Budd, transgender advocate; Dr. Philippe Chiliade, medical director for Whitman-Walker Clinic; Kathleen DeBold, executive director for The Mautner Project ; David Haltiwanger, director of clinical programs and public policy for Chase Brexton Health Services in Baltimore and co-chair of the National Coalition for LGBT Health.
